When George Floyd couldn’t breathe and was calling out for his mom, I was about to become one. When Breonna Taylor was supposed to celebrate her 27th birthday on June 5th, I celebrated mine, with a new baby boy in my arms.
I am a white woman, and extremely privileged. I’ve always thought of myself as self aware, and an ally for everyone. But being self aware, and a self proclaimed ally is not enough. So in the months that have followed I have read and educated myself more. I have so much work to do, and want to make sure that my education passes along to my son, to be an advocate for those who need his voice.
In partnership with Brandi of Pin and Proper, a Black, woman owned business, I have stitched these Black Lives Matter hoops. Brandi created the design and I stitched them. $15 from the sale of each hoop will be donated to Black Lives Matter. I will match the donation for each sale. Right now, only three hoops are available, but with your support, I will continue making them.
It’s a drop in the bucket for what can be done to support Black Lives Matter. More must be done.
